Week 22 in 1LJe

It’s been an exciting week in Grade One LJe. The children were busy preparing for our upcoming Arts Festival in many creative ways. In writing we collaborated and wrote a class story. We started by brainstorming all our ideas for characters, settings and events. Everyone had a chance to contribute their ideas and we have come up with a very creative story together!

For reading we practiced reading our Arts Festival story in parts. We focused on reading with fluency and expression. We also had a chance to read with some big buddies from grade eleven. The grade elevens also performed a few of our Reader’s Theatre scripts for us. It was fun to see our big buddies reading “The Three Little Pigs” and “Cinderella” using their best expression!

The children have also begun creating illustrations for our Arts Festival using a medium of their choice. Please could you send in a plain white T-Shirt by Monday 25th January for your child to wear during the Arts Festival performance.  We will use our creativity to decorate this so it is important that it has no logo or pictures on it already. Please could you ensure that you label the T-Shirt with your child's name.

In Maths we are learning how to identify common attributes of a group of shapes and describe, compare and name 2D shapes. The children worked collaboratively in small groups to make a shape poster. They decided as a group how to sort the shapes into categories and named their categories together.
