Friday April 22

We are planning a “Character Morning Tea” on Wednesday 11th May. The children will be invited to come to school dressed as a favourite book character and if they wish they may bring a small plate of food to share with their classmates which they think their character might like to eat!  Their “costume” might be a few props, or a few accessories, it need not be very elaborate. This week we had a visit from Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as Emily Eyefinger and Strega Nona!

This week we continued to explore addition, subtraction and place value. This is a unit we revisit continually throughout the year.  At the moment, we are focusing on fluently adding and subtracting within 20, counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s, and counting forwards and backwards within 120. We are also learning how to solve story problems involving counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10's. For example: “There were five children playing at the park. How many legs were there at the park?”

We also enjoyed a visit from our Grade 12 boarder buddy, Liesan. We wished her good luck on her upcoming exams and listened as she explained about going off to college in America after she finishes Grade 12.

On Tuesday we were invited to visit Grade 2NDo. They shared with us their non-fiction books that they had just completed using the Book Creator App. They also shared with us information books they had written called “All About Grade Two” and finally, they answered our questions about what grade two is like and showed us around their classroom and hallway.

The children have been doing a great job in their gymnastics unit. Please enjoy the video of their lesson last Monday.
