Week 8 in 1LJe

We have had an action packed week with lots of excitement and fun! Highlights include: Service Day, visiting Grade 2 and Art with Mr Betts. 

On Monday, we spent most of our time with the students from 11EHe as part of our Service Day. The Grade 11's shared some fantastic picture books with us based on the theme 'commitment to care'. Everyone took part in a carousel of activities. This included a reflection about Service and making appreciation gifts for a special member of our community, Mr Leong. Can you tell your parents who Mr Leong is and why we made a gift for him?




On Tuesday we invited Mr Leong to our Morning Meeting and presented him with a lovely card and some delicious shortbread that we baked with Miss Mary. 

This week we have been working hard on publishing our 'Small Moment' stories. We have been trying to include action, emotion and dialogue to interest the reader. As part of a celebration of this unit, we visited 2RCo. We enjoyed listening to and reading their completed stories. We swapped lots of top tips about writing!

On Thursday, we had lots of fun exploring the Art room with Mr Betts. Can you tell your parents about some of the wonderful things that you discovered here? Mr Betts also taught us about drawing different types of lines. We used these ideas to create our own 'squiggle' pictures. Check out the photograph album below to find out more.....

After the holidays we will be focusing on Poetry in Reading and Writing Workshop. If you have some poetry books at home you could enjoy them during the holidays and then bring them in to share with the class. Don't forget to add any poems that you really like to your Poetry Folder. Return this to school after the break.

The children are excited about our next Unit of Study, 'My Body'. Parents - if you have any expertise in this area please let me know as we would love to learn more from you.
